Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) Car Rental Guide
For international tourists, business executives, and visitors landing at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD), the first logistical challenge is getting to Baku city center or heading out to Azerbaijan’s scenic regions comfortably.
Street taxis outside the terminal frequently overcharge tourists, while public transit can be cumbersome with heavy luggage. The most seamless option is receiving your rental car right outside the airport terminal.
How Does Airport Car Delivery Work with Carent?
Picking up your rental car at Baku Airport through Carent is quick and straightforward:
- Book Before You Fly: Before your flight to Baku, choose a listing whose owner offers airport handover, and book it in the Carent app.
- Share Your Flight Details: Send your flight number and expected landing time to the owner in the in-app chat. If your flight is delayed, let them know right away.
- Terminal Handover: After passport control and baggage claim, meet the owner at the agreed spot, usually the parking area in front of the terminal.
- Digital Check-in: Complete the photo report in the app, take the keys and start your journey without queuing at rental counters.
Airport Car Rental vs Taxis: Cost Breakdown
| Service Type | Typical Price Range | Freedom & Flexibility |
|---|---|---|
| Airport Taxi (Round Trip) | 50 – 80 AZN (~$30–$47) | Just 1 fixed route |
| Daily City Taxis | 40 – 60 AZN/day | Waiting times, ride surges |
| Carent Daily Car Rental | 45 – 80 AZN/day | Total 24/7 independence across Azerbaijan |
If you plan to stay in Azerbaijan for more than two days or take road trips to Gabala, Sheki, or Guba, renting a car is 2 to 3 times more cost-effective than relying on taxis or guided tours.
Useful Tips for Baku Airport Car Pickups
- Check Luggage Capacity: If traveling with family and multiple large suitcases, opt for a compact SUV or crossover rather than a compact sedan.
- Agree on the Meeting Point: Waiting in front of the terminal may not be possible for long, so message the owner in the app as soon as you land.
- Departure Drop-off: If the owner agrees, you can return the car at the airport when you leave Azerbaijan. Arrange this when you book.
