What is Carent and how does it work?

Carent is a car rental platform: in one place you find cars from both private owners and rent-a-car companies. In the app you choose your dates and location and book the car, you pay online, and once the owner confirms, you collect the car. No offices, no paperwork.

How do I rent a car?

Download the app, verify your profile, choose a car and send a booking request. The rental fee is paid online at the moment the booking is created. Once the owner accepts, a protected in-app chat opens and you agree the handover details there.

What do I need in order to rent?

Accepted Answer

You must be at least 18, hold a valid driving licence, and your Carent account must pass identity verification. An owner can set extra conditions on their own listing (a minimum number of years' driving experience, for example) — any such condition is stated clearly on the listing page.

Which documents are required?

Accepted Answer

For citizens of Azerbaijan, an ID card (front and back) and the FIN code; for citizens of other countries, the data page of your passport. A driving licence is required in both cases — visitors can use a valid national licence issued under the international conventions, or an International Driving Permit (IDP). The car owner does not see the documents you upload — they are kept in closed storage.

Is a deposit required?

Most cars require no deposit. If one is required, it is stated clearly on the listing's detail page — before you book — so you never meet an unexpected amount. The deposit is not taken online: you hand it to the owner when you collect the car and get it back when you return the car in order.

When do I pay?

The rental fee is paid online at the moment the booking is created. If the owner does not confirm the booking, the full amount is refunded.

What is included in the price?

Accepted Answer

The daily rental fee shown on the listing, plus the service fee. If you choose the Flexible rate, a small extra fee is added on top. If you choose delivery, it is charged separately — the owner sets the amount. The full list of fees is on the Payments and Fees page.

Is there a mileage limit?

Accepted Answer

The owner can set a daily mileage limit on the listing. If there is one, it is stated on the listing page; if you go over it, the owner may charge extra. If no limit is set, there is no such restriction.

Who pays for fuel?

The fuel policy is shown on the listing. The usual rule is that you return the car at the same fuel level you collected it at. If there is a difference, the owner may charge for the fuel.

Can someone else drive the car?

Accepted Answer

Only the person who made the booking may drive the car. An additional driver is possible only with the owner's explicit consent. Handing the car to a third party or subletting it is prohibited — if this rule is broken, the insurer can refuse to pay and the loss falls on you.

Can the car be delivered to me?

Accepted Answer

If the owner offers a delivery service, you can select it when booking — for example to Heydar Aliyev International Airport, your hotel or another address. The owner sets the delivery fee and it is shown on the booking screen.

Question 12

Can I take the car out of the country?

Accepted Answer

No. The car may be used only within the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan; taking it out of the country without the owner's written consent is prohibited. The car is also for personal use only — taxi, courier and other commercial transport are prohibited.

What is the difference between the Flexible and Saver rates?

On the Flexible rate you can cancel at any time before the trip starts and get back in full what you paid online; in exchange, a small extra fee is added to the rental amount. On the Saver rate there is no extra fee, but the free cancellation window is limited. You choose the rate yourself when you create the booking.

What happens if the owner cancels?

Whichever rate you chose, everything you paid online is refunded in full and you are notified immediately. We record such cancellations and act against owners who repeat them.

What if the car is not as described in the listing?

Accepted Answer

Before you take the car, record its condition with photos and write to the owner straight away in the in-app chat — the messages are kept as a record. If it is not resolved, contact support: we bring the booking details, the messages and the handover photos into the investigation.

Question 16

What should I do if there is an accident?

Accepted Answer

First make sure everyone is safe. If anyone is injured, call an ambulance (103), then always call the police (102) — without an official report, the process that follows is often impossible. Record the scene with photos. After that, notify the car owner through the app: they handle all the required insurance notifications, so you do not have to deal with the insurer separately. Carent support is with you too — we provide the booking and message records and give you the support you need through the process. Disputed cases are resolved under the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Are the cars insured?

Yes. Every car listed on Carent has compulsory motor insurance — the certificate passes our check before the listing goes live, and a car without one does not appear in search. Some cars also carry comprehensive (kasko) cover. Which car has which cover is stated on the listing's detail page, so you see it before you book.

How do I contact the car owner?

Accepted Answer

Once the booking is confirmed, the owner's phone number is shown to you and you can call directly. Even so, we recommend keeping the conversation in the in-app chat: everything you agree there is kept as a record and protects you if a dispute arises.

Question 19

How long does an unpaid booking last?

Accepted Answer

An unpaid booking is cancelled automatically after a short time and the dates are released to other renters.
