Renter Agreement

The renter's obligations — age, driving licence, usage limits and liability.

This Renter Agreement ("Agreement") is a legally binding formal agreement for all local and international drivers ("Renter", "You") who rent a vehicle on the carent.az website and in the Carent mobile app ("Carent App", "Platform"), which belong to "CARENT" MMC (limited liability company) ("Carent", "we", "our").

By booking a vehicle on the Platform, you are deemed to have accepted this Agreement and the Terms of Use, which form an integral part of it, in full and without reservation.

1. Renter Eligibility and International Drivers

To rent a vehicle on the Platform, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Age Limit: Being at least 18 years of age (depending on the Host's requirement, an age limit of 21 or 24 may apply to certain vehicle classes);
  2. For Citizens of Azerbaijan: An ID card, the FIN code and a valid driving licence;
  3. For Foreign Citizens and Tourists: A foreign passport and a valid national driving licence issued in accordance with the international conventions (or an International Driving Permit — IDP). Tourists and visitors from all countries of the world may freely use the Carent platform;
  4. Identity Verification: An active profile confirmed by an in-app liveness photo (Selfie check).

2. Right to Drive and Prohibition of Unauthorised Driving

  • Only the Verified Person: The vehicle may be driven only by the Renter whose documents were verified at the time of booking, or by an additional approved driver formally recorded in the booking.
  • Prohibition of Driving by Third Parties: Handing the vehicle to unauthorised third parties, including family members, friends or acquaintances, is strictly prohibited. In such a case the insurance cover ceases to apply and all damage is claimed 100% from the Renter.
  • Prohibition of Sub-Renting: Re-renting the vehicle out is strictly prohibited.

3. Territory of Use and Borders

  • Territory of Azerbaijan Only: The vehicle may be driven only within the lawful territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
  • Border and Special Zones: Taking the vehicle beyond the country's border, or into zones requiring a special state permit (for example, the Karabakh and East Zangezur zones without a special permit) without authorisation, is prohibited.

4. Traffic Rules, Fines and Parking

  1. 100% Personal Liability: All speed camera fines, State Traffic Police reports, safe-city camera records and paid parking charges arising during the trip are entirely the personal responsibility of the Renter.
  2. Payment of Fines: All fines issued in the car owner's name that fall within the rental period must be compensated by the Renter without delay.

5. Handover Photo Protocol (Check-in / Check-out)

  • When collecting and returning the vehicle, the Renter must use the Carent App to photograph the vehicle from all 4 sides, together with any existing scratches and the odometer and fuel readings.
  • Any new damage not recorded at the time of collection is deemed to have been caused by the Renter.

6. Fuel, Mileage and Cleanliness

  • Fuel Policy: The vehicle must be returned to the Host at the same fuel level at which it was collected. An additional charge applies for any missing fuel.
  • Smoking Prohibition: Smoking inside the vehicle is strictly prohibited. In the event of a breach, a chemical cleaning fee is charged.
  • Mileage Limit: If a daily mileage limit is stated in the listing, the rate stated in the listing applies to every kilometre over the limit.

7. Accidents, Breakdowns and Repairs

  • If any technical fault arises on the road, you must stop the vehicle safely and immediately inform the Host and Carent Support. Carrying out repairs on your own initiative without the Host's written permission is prohibited.

8. Applicable Law and Courts

This Agreement is subject to the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Disputes are resolved exclusively in the competent courts of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
